Professor Gilbert de Greeve

Born in Sint Truiden (Belgium), he got his first music lesson from his father Jos De Greeve, a professional musician, violinist and composer, with whom he did numerous performances.

In 1958, at the age of 13, he was admitted to the Royal Conservatory of Music in Antwerp (Belgium) where he studied piano and chamber music, and composition. He graduated both Performance and Composition with (following the French Conservatory of Paris System) 7 Premier Prix and a Diplôme Supérieure. He went on studying in the United States of America, being based at the Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore and visiting a.o. with Rudolf Serkin, Eugene Ormandy and Leonard Paerlman.

He is one of the great protagonists of the so—called active methodologies for music education particularly for young children.

For many years already and even at present, he is known worldwide as a performer and composer. He received a number of important awards, amongst them the Pro Musica Hungarica, given by the Hungarian State, the Commemorative Medal for the Kodaly Centenary, as well as Honorary Membership of a number of International Societies.
